BCL leader leads a luxurious life at DU hall

02 October 2022

DU Correspondent  :
A Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader has allegedly been gotten promotion in the student organisation violating its rules even after getting a government job. He lives at Dhaka University (DU)'s Hall with TV, refrigerator and air cooler illegally.
According to the BCL constitution, government employees cannot be involved in BCL politics. But SM Riyad Hasan is still in the position of vice-president of the student body without paying attention to the rules of the constitution.
Besides, even after getting a government job, he is staying illegally in DU Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall with luxury life. Riyad nominated as vice-president on July 31, 2022. Earlier, he joined the Small and Medium Enterprise Foundation as assistant manager on July 5 this year.
Criticism boosted up against him within the students' body. Many have made critical posts about it on social media.
It is mentionable that Riyad was admitted to the Philosophy Department of DU in 2011-12 academic years. He completed his graduation a few years ago. But he is still in the hall illegally with TV, refrigerator and air cooler.
"When he was given the post, he did not join the government service. But now that he has joined the service, his post has automatically become vacant," BCL president Al-Nahian Khan Joy told the media.
Contacted, Professor Abdur Rahim, Provost of the hall, on Saturday tried to ignore the student's illegal luxury life with TV, refrigerator and air cooler.
He said, "Not only he (Riyad), but many former students stay at the hall. One house tutor has been given the duty to see into the matters. He could not give any information to me yet."
