Bangladesh edge past India in first ODI

Bangladesh edged past India by one wicket in the first One Day International (ODI) match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Sunday.

Sent into bat first, India scored a fighting total of 186 off 41.2 overs.

In reply, Bangladesh reached the winning target making 190 for the loss of nine wickets when they had 24 balls to spare.

 A superb five-wicket haul by left-arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan and a good support by right-arm pacer Ebadot Hossain guided Bangladesh  to wrap up stronger India innigs.

Shakib Al Hasan bowled extremely well and finished his superb bowling spell as 10-2-36-5.

Eabadot Hossain claimed four wickets at the cost of 47 runs.

Litton Das and Shakib Al Hasan repaired the damage added together 48 runs for the third wicket partnership before Litton was caught at behind by wicketkeeper KL Rahul off Washington Sundar when the hosts’ score was 74 for the loss of three wickets.

Litton hit a polished 41. He hit three fours and a sixer in his 63-ball innings.

Shakib Al Hasan was caught at the extra cover by Virat Kohli off Washington when the home side’s total was 95 for the loss of four wickets.

Shakib made 29 from 38 balls featuring three fours.

After Shakib’s departure, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad fought back putting together 33 runs in the five-wicket stand before Riyad (14) was trapped leg before wicket by Shardul Thakur when Bangladesh’s total was 128 for the loss of five wickets. 

After, Riyad’s dismissal, Mushfiqur Rahim could stay at the crease for a short period as he (18) was bowled out by Mohammed Siraj when Bangladesh’s score was 128 for the loss of six wickets.

Then, Afif Hossain, Ebadot Hossain and Hasan Mahmud were dismissed. When Hasan Mahmud was removed, Bangladesh’s score was 136 for the loss of nine wickets.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mustafizur Rahman salvaged their team from almost confirm defeat after contributing together 54 runs for the last wicket partnership and guided their team to overhaul the winning target.

Miraz remained unbeaten with 38 runs. His 39-ball innings saw four fours and two sixes. Miraz was adjudged the Man of the Match for his heroic performance.

Mustafizur Rahman remained unbeaten with 10 runs.

Mohammed Siraj captured three wickets in the space of 32 runs, while Washington and Kuldeep Sen bagged two wickets each instead of 17 and 37 runs respectively.                                                     

Earlier, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul built a notable partnership. They put on together 43 runs in the fourth wicket stand before Shreyas (24) was caught by wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim off Ebadot Hossain when the touring side’s total was 92 for the loss of four wickets.

After Iyers departure, KL Rahul and Washington Sundar made the most worthy partnership scoring together 60 runs in the five wicket stand before Washington (19) was caught at the point by Ebadot Hossain off Shakib Al Hasan when India’s score was 152 for the loss of five wickets.

KL Rahul hit a gritty 73. His 70-ball innings was studded with five fours and four sixes.

After Washington’s dismissal, Shakib Al Hasan and Ebadot Hossain played the key role to mop up the Indian tail-enders.
