People don't need more government servants to make election cheating easier

When hundreds of thousands of youths in the country are struggling to find employment, over 350,000 posts are lying vacant in different government ministries, divisions, departments, directorates and offices. Among those, 43,336 are first class posts, 40,561 second class, 151,548 third class and 122,680 fourth class posts. Besides, many Bangladeshis are living a miserable life abroad because jobs are not available. Employment in the government is easy with public money. The policy should be to reduce the size of the government which is already too big and government officials are spending time idly with fat salaries. As a result, government officials live in luxury.

The government's responsibility is to create job opportunities in private sector. A disproportionate number of unemployed ones are taking risky journeys to find lowly jobs in other countries. It is not humiliating for the government because it is getting foreign exchange for spending on mega projects and expensive foreign trips   with dollars from repatriate workers. It is a national shame.

Employment in the government is no credit. For the reason of big government there remains little or nothing for improving the lot of the people. The development means development of the men in the government. The people are getting much from government servants by way of services. Most of them still believe they are to serve and save the government.

The government is guaranteed of election victory by cheating people's election. Willingly or not with their cooperation the country now belongs to the corrupt ones. The government claims credit for its great success in spreading corruption in every corner of public life.

The public servants being treated as government servants with public money feel no obligation to the people. They are of the government and for the government. Compared to other countries our government servants spend most luxurious life and enjoy greater privileges. They have to learn to serve the people.
