Bangladesh recorded a formidable 183-run victory over Ireland in their first One Day International (ODI) match at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Saturday. It is Bangladesh's biggest marginal win in their One Day International campaign.
Sent into bat first, Bangladesh piled up a mammoth total of 338 for the loss of eight wickets in the stipulated 50 overs and then, shot out Ireland for a meager total of 155 off 30.5 overs.
Bangladesh had a sorrow start as opener Tamim Iqbal (3) was caught at the slip by Paul Sterling off Mark Adair when Bangladesh's score was just 15.
Opener Litton Das and one-down Najmul Hossain Shanto repaired the damage contributing together 34 runs for the second wicket partnership before Litton (26) was caught at the cover by Starling off Curtis Campher when the hosts' total was 49 for the loss of two wickets.
After Litton's dismissal, Shanto and Shakib Al Hasan mended the innings adding together 32 runs in the third wicket stand before Shanto (25) was bowled out by Andy Mcbrine when Bangladesh's score was 81 for the loss of three wickets.
After Shanto's departure, Shakib Al Hasan and Towhid Hridoy salvaged their team from debacle putting together 135 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Shakib was caught behind by wicketkeeper Lorcan Tucker off Graham Hume when the home side's total was 216 for the loss of four wickets.
Shakib top-scored with 93 runs. His 89-ball innings was laced with nine fours.
Shakib reached his 53rd ODI fifty-run landmark using 65 deliveries with two fours.
After Shakib's departure, Towhid Hridoy and Mushfiqur Rahim contributed together 80 runs in the fifth wicket stand before Mushfiqur Rahim was caught at the short fine leg by McBrine off Hume when the Tigers' score was 296 for the loss of five wickets.
Mushfiq hit a windy 44 from 26 balls with three sixes and three fours.
After Mushfiq's departure, Hridoy was bowled out by Hume when Bangladesh's total was 297 for the loss of six wickets.
Hridoy hit a marvelous 92. His 85-ball innings was belted with eight fours and two sixes.
It is Hridoy's maiden ODI century. He was adjudged the Man of the Match for his superb innings.
Hume is the most successful bowler of Ireland with four wickets for 60 runs.
Ireland had a good start with two openers Stephen Doheny and Paul Starling (22) added together 60 runs before Starling was caught behind by wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim off Ebadot Hossain.
Ireland lost their rest of the four wickets for 76 runs.
Curtis Campher and George Dockrell built a notable partnership. They put on together 33 runs in the sixth wicket stand before Campher (16) was trapped leg before wicket by Nasum Ahmed when the tourists' score was 109 for the loss of six wickets.
Then, the Irish failed to build any notable partnership against the tight, controlled and superb bowling attack of Bangladesh.
Pacer Ebadot Hossain captured four wickets in the space of 42 runs, while spinner Nasum Ahmed grabbed three wickets at the cost of 43 runs and pacer Taskin Ahmed bagged two wickets instead of 15 runs. Shakib took one wicket for 23 runs.
