Liberation war veteran Nur-E-Alam Siddiqui passes away

Liberation war veteran and legendary student leader Nur-E-Alam Siddiqui passed away early Wednesday while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka.
He was 82.
Siddiqui left behind his wife, two sons, a daughter, and a host of relatives, friends, and well-wishers to mourn his death.
"He died at 4:37am at the United Hospital in the capital on Wednesday. His body was   taken to Jhenaidah by helicopter," Nur-E-Alam Siddique's secretary Aniket Rajesh told the media.  
His first namaz-e-janaza was held at Jhenaidah Govt Boys School premises after Zohr prayers.
Before the janaza, the valiant freedom fighter was given a "guard of honour".
After the janaza, his body was brought back to Dhaka and his second namaz-e-janaza will be held at Gulshan Azad Mosque.
Siddique will be given a "guard of honour" there. Later the veteran leader will be taken to Savar where he will be  buried beside a mosque he built earlier.
Born on May 26 in 1940 in Jhenaidah, Nur-E-Alam Siddique actively took part in all pre-independence movements, including the Language Movement in 1952, the movement against education commission in 1962, the six-point movement in 1966, the mass uprising in 1969 and played a crucial role in organising the great War of Liberation.
A pall of gloom has descended on Jhenidah as his death news spread.
Siddique was close to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Siddique couldn't see his mother's face for the last time when her mother died as back then he was imprisoned with Bangabandhu.
He was the convenor of the Swadhin Bangla Chhatra Sangram Parishad and served as the president of the Chhatra League during 1970-1972.
He had played a glorious role during the Liberation War.
Nur E Alam Siddique was one of the leaders of Mujib Bahini, also known as Bangladesh Liberation Force.
The former student leader was known as one of the 'Char Khalifas' (the four caliphs) of Chhatra League loyal to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman before the war. The other three were Shahjahan Siraj, ASM Abdur Rab and Abdul Kuddus Makhan.
Siddique was a Member of Parliament (MP) and former president of Bangladesh Chhatra League (1970-1972).
Siddique was elected MP from Jashore-2 Constituency as a candidate of Bangladesh Awami League in the first parliamentary election of 1973.
Later, he regretted to join the then formed Bangladesh Krishak Shramik Awami League (BKSL).
Siddique contested the seventh and eighth parliamentary elections in 1996 and 2001 from Jhenaidah-2, also from the Awami League.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock at the death of Nur-e-Alam Siddique.
In a condolence message, she said Nur-E-Alam Siddiqui, one of the leaders of the All-Party Chhatra Sangram Parishad, remained steadfast to the ideals of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and played an important role in the anti-Ayub movement, the six-point movement and the 1970 election.
The premier said he had served as an organiser of the Liberation War.
"The contribution of this brave son of the nation in the establishment of independent Bangladesh will be remembered with reverence forever by the next generations," she said.
Sheikh Hasina prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and expressed profound sympathy to the bereaved family members.
