Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder and valiant freedom fighter Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury died on Tuesday night at the Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital.
He was 81.
Professor Brigadier (Retd) Mamun Mostafi, who is leading a medical board formed for Dr Zafrullah's treatment, confirmed that he (Dr Zafrullah) breathed his last at 11:00pm. Dr Zafrullah was admitted to Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital in the capital's Dhanmondi area on Wednesday last as his health condition deteriorated.
On Sunday, the hospital authorities formed a medical board with specialist doctors to ensure his proper treatment.
On Monday, Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury was taken on life support due to the deterioration of his physical condition.
Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury was suffering from kidney complications for a long time. Apart from kidney problems, he also developed liver problems.
In addition, he was suffering from severe septicemia with malnutrition.
Dr Zafrullah made an outstanding contribution to the great liberation war. He was one of the founders of the 'Bangladesh Field Hospital' built for the freedom fighters during the liberation war.
